Placement in Child Welfare Services
Placement in Child Welfare Services
is a four-day, competency-based curriculum that provides information
about making appropriate foster care placements and opportunities
for skill practice. Participants learn strategies to minimize
trauma to the child, preserve family connections, and form a collaborative
partnership with substitute caregivers for the delivery of services
to the child and family. Topics include:
- The dynamics of attachment and separation,
- Preparation for placement;
- The history and legal basis of foster
care,
- Permanency planning,
- ICWA and MEPA,
- Visitation and reunification,
- Teamwork among social workers, birth
and foster families,
- Behavior management, and
- Sensitive foster care issues.

Placement in Child Welfare Services
is currently offered free of charge to social workers from North
Carolina departments of social services. To learn more about class
